Powder Trenching in Niseko
Today’s weather isn’t great with rain in Hirafu village and glum faces everywhere. Although things are looking grim for the next few days the snow will be back soon.
This video was shot on the 9th -only a few days ago on Niseko Hanazono’s Jumbo course next to the ‘hana san’ lift. I usually ski during the season as i carry quite a bit of gear for photography. I find skiing much better for getting around the mountain and for my posture but i love snowboarding. When i get the chance to ride for fun on a powder day i’ll snowboard – it is hard to beat the feeling of full speed turns in powder on a snowboard!
I have been riding a custom Snurfs Up board for the last few season made by Offshore Snow Shapes . This board is amazing – super fast and whippy in the powder – the pin tail took a bit of getting used to but love it now. The centered stance compared to say a Burton fish makes the ride way more free flowing and dynamic for me.
This clip was shot with a Go Pro 4 Black, 30fps at 1080p. The helmet side mount is a new angle for me as i don’t usually wear a helmet and use ‘selfie stick’. Like this angle though with the perspective from the edge of the goggles then board and then the terrain coming at you. Looking forward to sharing some more perspectives as the season unfolds. Cheers.
